High School Musical 1: Pop Up Edition
The"ski lounge" and "the gym" for the movie, did not exist, it was a dance studio in a high school, the same school where most of the movie was filmed.

To make it look like a gym, the filmakers used backdrops to cover all the mirrors and the walls. (but you could still see the ballet bars!)

When Troy and Gabriella are entering the ski loge: "This isn't a ski lodge either! It's just a nice building in Midway, Utah."

During the ski lodge setting, it's supposed to be almost midnight now in the movie. It was really filmed in the daytime.

There wasn't a stage where Troy and Gabriella sang, so the filmmakers built one.

Karaoke is \when a machine plays just the music to a song, without the vocals.

You read the words on a screen and you sing.

Sometimes, people don't pay attention to you when you sing karaoke.

Unless you're really good!

The Japanese word, Karaoke, means empty orchestra.

There is no orchestra with you when you sing karaoke, just a music machine.

Karaoke was invented in Kobe, Japan in 1971 by Daisuke Inoue.

He was adrummer in a local band, not an orchestra, ;)

Gabriella's sweater didn't comr with sparkles on it, so the costume designer too it to a "sparkle experect" in hollywood who adds sparkes to clothes for famous musicians, dancers and ice skaters!

The video screens behind Troy and Gabriella in "The Start Of Something New" are showing live shtos of the people in the room.

Nobody in the crowd will show up again anywhere in the movie, so get a good look!

They're all paying attention now! (To Troy and Gabriella singing)

This is the scene where Gabriella starts to fall for Troy...(Gabriella trips and almost falls off the stage)..literally!

Troy Bolton is played by Zac Efron, he was born on October 18th in San Luis Obispo, California.

Zac won the 2006 Teen Choice Award for "Choice TV Breakout Star"!

There was no real snow outside this that time of year while filming the opening sing because it was really August.

The snow was actually falling potato flakes.

Every year on New Year's Eve, people count down to midnight, then couples kiss.

The Chinese invented fireworks around 1,000 years ago.

There were no real fireworks in the sky during the countdown scene, the filmakers flickered lights on the actors.

The campera phone was invented in 1997 by Philippe Kahn to show off pictures of his new baby girl!

They say "Necessity is the mother of invention.", But in this case, it was the proud father!

"East High" was not really filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The red banners on the "East High School" were hung by the fil makers to add color to the scene.

Corbin in wearing three watches on his opening scene. He was given three watches to choose from, and chose all three! They were all in different time zones.

In real life, the real high school colors were red and white, same as the movie

Sometimes in busy crowd scenes, like the scene in Mrs.Durbus's homeroom scene, the actors have to make up something to say.

Let's see what Zac comes up with...("All I can remember is..pink jelly...") "Pink Jelly?"

Alyson Reed, who plays drama teacher, Mrs. Darbus, is a real broadway star!

When Mrs. Darbus notices Chad's basketball, she states that he is not in a hockey arena. A "hockey arena" is called an ice skating rink.

As Chad overhears Mrs. Darbus inform Troy of how she will see him in detention, Chad steps in and calls her, "Your Honor". "Your Honor" is what people call the judge in a court of law.

Some judges slam a gavel on their bench for emphasis (Mrs. Darbus slams a paint can) Never a paint can!

Peer Pressure is social pressure fromf riends to behave ina way that is similar or acceptable to them.

Many of the hallway posters in the movie were made by the film crew.

Most of the clothes Sharpay wears were already sparkly when the filmmakers got them, but some were given extra sparkes, maybe to match her sparkly personality? ;-)

Sharpay, is very comfortable in her sparkly pink outfit as she flirts with Troy in the hallway, A Shar-Pei dog wouldn't be.

Shar-Peis are known for their oversized wrinkly skin, not for their sparkles.

Both Zac Efron and Corbin Bleu auditioned for their roles

Chad states: "....It's all costumes and make up. Oh, dude. It's freightning.": Uniforms are costumes Chad!

A moutain lion is a wild cat, not to be confused with a "Wild Cat" Student at East High! These are not real wildcats.

Most of the actors in the musical number "Getcha Head In The Game" are not real baskeetball players, they are dancers.

Sometheings up with these basketballs, they are smaller than normal for better control.

One of the basketball players is actually a choreographer.

"Getcha Head In The Game" was nominated for a 3006 Emmy for "Outstanding Music and Lyrics"

All of the basketball actions was choreographed and rehearsed ahead of time.

Choreograph means to plan a sequence of movements.

The actors memorized their basketball moves, just like dance steps.

The overhead gymnasium lights were not used during the filming on the musical number.

The filmmakers put their own movie light sup in the rafters.

Lucas Grabeel, plays Sharpay's brother, Ryan Evans.

"Getcha head in the game" was his favorite dance number in the entire movie, he learned all the choreography even though he was not in the scene.

The lab were Sharpay questions Gabriella about Troy is real, but the teacher is not. She's an actress.

Pi-is the symbol for the ratio of the circumfrence of any circle to it's diameter.

Or Pi=3.14592653589793238462643383279500288419716939937510....which means that Gabriella is smart!

The wildcat statue was already at the school before the film started

The real high school's mascot is a leopard, but "Wildcats" fit in the songs better than "Leopards."

Sharpay and her brother Ryan, are fraternal twins. That means they were borng at the same time but are not identical.

The webpages used for Sharpay's research for Gabriella Montaz were made by the prop department.

Albert Enstein won the 1921 nobel prize for Physics, he was very smart.

The Scholastic Decathlon was created in 1981 by Dr. Robert Peterson, like in sports, there are gold, silver and bronze awards for individual events, and students compete at the local, regional, state and national levels.

Unlike sports, competitors are challenged in ten academic areas: Economics, Essay, interview, Language, Literature, Music, Sceience, Social Science, Speech and Art.

Coach Bolton is played by Bart Johnson. Everyday during filming Bart watched basketball movies in his trailer,, it helped him to get his head in the game! ;-)

Some of the stage scenery used for Mrs. Darbus detention duties were left at the real highs chool when filming was over.

Crime and Punishment is a book by famous Russiian author, Dostoevsky. It is not about a high school musical or basketball.

In the script, it said that Ms. Darbus should wear "big glasses", so the prop department took a pair of big sunglasses and replaced the lenses. Stylish...if you are Mrs.Darbus!

Several song and dance numbers were never filmed because the film would have been too long. One of them was a battle song between Ms.Darbus and Coach Bolton. Now that would have been itneresting! :-o

Corbin led the rest of the cast in a Wildcat cheer during rehearsals. He even got the entire gym fillled with actors to shout: "What Team?" "Not Leopards!" "What Team?" "Not Leopards!"

There were hundgres of people coming and going while Gabriella and Taylor walk home, pretending it was after school.

All the sounds from the cheerleaders, cars, and people were actually added later by the sound department.

While filming, everyone in the background had to be extra quiet.

What do you call silent cheerleaders? Mimes ;-#

The patio on the Bolton's home was under construction before filming and wasn't completed in time. So the film crew had to make it "look" finished. Good work, crew!

The average cost of one year of college in the United States when this movie was made was from $15,566 to $31,916 dollars. That's alot of basketballs!

All the props in Mrs.Darbus's homeroom were added to make it look like a drama room.

The two mask behind Mrs. Darbus, on her wall are Comedy and Tragedy-classic Greek symbols for drama.

Corbin Bleu plays Chad Danforth. He was born February 21st in Brooklyn, New York.

Corbin up with all the sayings on Chad's shirts. He submitted a total of twenty five choices to the filmmakers and the best were used.

Magicians often use a distraction when they make things disappear.

An Underscore is the background music during a film.

The auto shop that "Troy" sneeks through to avoid his father and Chad was an actual auto shop at the school!

Bactrian cammels have two humps and Dromedary cames have one hump. Neither kind of camel is really made out of papier-mache'.

The auditorium were the auditions were held were filmed at a different school, because the base school's theater seats were gettting a "new look"!

Off-Key is when you are out of tune

Tone Deaf-unable to tell the difference in pitch between musical notes

Flat-lower than an intended pitch.

Falsetto-an unusually high-pitched voice.

Some of these bad singers during the musical auditions really have beautiful singing voices.

Brava is the feminine version of bravo, both words mean good in Italian.

Stage Left-Is your left side when you are on stage facing the audience

Many kids auditioned to "act weird" for a scenece and the oens who acted the weirdest was chosen!

"Hay" is for horses, "Hey" is to get somebody's attention.Unless you're trying to get a horse's attention. Then you are better off using "hay".

Stage Fright-A fear in front of an audience.

Afraid=Scared

An Arrangement is a version of a piece of music fo certain vocies or instruments.

Kelsi's song, --BREAK FINISH FROM SCIENCE LAB SCENCE-- An Eavesdropper is someone who secretly listens to private conversations, or private singing!
The High School lunch tables used in the "Stick To The Status Quo" scenes were real tables that belonged to the school.
The filmakers added an "E" on each of them.
The hudge sculptures on teh wall in the lunch room were built by the crew out of giant pieces of foam!
Zeke Baylor is played by Chad Warren Jr. He was bvorn on January 16th in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Apple Pan Dowdy is a traditional American cobbler-like dessert.
The "hip-hop girl" came to the dance adution and the director liked her so much, he cast her in this role. Now she has an agent and manger in Hollywood. It pays to try-out!
The filmmakers wanted to use a real cello-playing skater boy here, but they couldn't find one! The actor potraying the "cello-playing skater", can't really play the cello, but he could act like it! The director wanted him to pull a cello out from under the table, but it was too awkward. When the crew first arrived at the school, the air-conditioning was broken. And by noon, it was 100 degrees in the cafeteria! Luckily, there was plenty of AC by the time filming began. On the day, the complicated "Stick To The Status Quo" dance number was filmed, the choreographer worked with each group of dancers one table at a time. A Clique is a small, exclusive group of people. Many of the dancers were real high school students from local dance studios. The cafeteria stairs were covered in self-adhesive red vinyl, it came off easier than paint! All of Gabriella's food was glued to her lunch tray except for the real, ice-cold fries that landed on Sharpay's outfit! Many of the milk cartons in this scene were filled with lemon-lime drink, real milk would have gone bad sitting all day. In the scene where Mrs. Darbus walks through the boy's locker room, the boys are clad in towels! But don't worry, they had shorts under them. Since the air-conditioning wasn't working too well, they were probably quite comfortable!
